I have always had a love affair with foreign travel. My ambition was always to get out there and see as much of the world as possible. As a child I used to spend hours making maps, pretending I was an explorer discovering a remote island for the first time. One of my greatest joys is that I followed my passion and have had the privilege of visiting many truly amazing places around the world. Travelling to India and Nepal has had the biggest impact; the warmth of the people and its varied landscape; from the stunning peaks of the Himalayas down to the backwaters of Kerela. These sights, colours and - in particular - scents, have all stayed with me for over 20 years.

It is my fascination and passion for exquisite scent that drove me to establish Aananda. I have spent so many hours of my life exploring the delights of scent, and it is candles which have consistently provided me with the perfect way to enjoy the evocative scents of far away lands and the exotic fragrances of rare ingredients.

Having worked in the travel and aviation industry for 25 years, I thought it was time to turn my dream into a reality, creating a luxury product that combines my love of travel and exquisite scent, and it was through this passion that Aananda was eventually born. From the start it was important to me that Aananda should combine only the finest environmentally friendly ingredients. I was genuinely surprised to discover the extent to which even highly priced candles were polluting the air. Paraffin wax is extensively used in candle making; a product which releases toxic compounds when burned, very like the toxins found in diesel fuel!

With a desire to produce a candle which was both an affordable luxury product as well as a clean candle that people can confidently burn without harming the environment, began a process of lengthy experimentation with different varieties of wax and oils, and which finally developed into the candle I am delighted to produce today. Our plant-based artisan candles are individually hand poured using 100% soy wax and using only the highest quality oils which combine to create a luxury candle that you will enjoy for many hours

A fine scent is a joy in any home and it can add a little luxury to your daily life, perhaps evoking happy memories and transporting you to a far away destination.

Aananda is a sanskrit word (the language of ancient India) and it means joy, bliss and happiness.
